There seems a reluctance to charge a reasonable security/damage deposit. We recently sold our chalet in the French Alps but have been letting it occasionally in the winter, and summer, for years and for the last few years we took a deposit of £600 which was returned in full within two weeks as long ...

If it is only for two or three nights max then I think that a few hooks on the wall, or in your case an alcove, and supplied coathangers is quite sufficient. We have done this in our guest room at home, we took out a rather inefficient built in wardrobe that had those very irritating sliding doors, ...

We have a hybrid Mitsubishi car. At home in UK we have had a special charging power supply fitted by our gate and OH is meticulous about always plugging in after he has been out in the car. He reckons he gets all his local driving done on the electric, down to the beach, sailing club, into town etc....

I had been a member of Streetlife for a few months, just made the odd comment and read stuff on there. I did migrate, if that is the right word, to Nextdoor but then read on a bit more and unsubscribed.

We haven't noticed anything missing this time round after Christmas guests in our chalet, but we have one of those little tub Ikea arm chairs, and I sat on that when we arrived with a mug of coffee. I stood up, and shot across the room with the coffee going everywhere. One of the front legs had brok...

We have 9.5 tog for the winter in our ski chalet and 4.5 for the summer. The duvet not in use is kept in drawers, or big plastic bags, under the beds so it is possible to add the other one on in the winter but I don't think anyone does. We have our 'very own' duvet for when we are there and that is ...

We stay on the island once or twice a year, but in Cowes so if we are not taking a car over can use the Redjet which is inexpensive. I agree that taking a car over is very very expensive. You can use Tesco tokens. We have also stayed in a hotel on the south side a few years ago and that was with a d...

We have got bunks in our smallest, fifth, bedroom, one that we don't let but use when family here and in a room that we lock up with our stuff. But at the end of July OH and I gatecrashed our chalet while our son had it for his family and friends. We spent a weekend here, to see the TdF, so used the...

AngloDutch - why don't you buy from Mattisons and have the mattresses shipped to someone to deliver them to you. We have talked to Philip White Freight in the past about having things delivered to us in France and I know he delivered for a friend successfully. I believe he has a warehouse where thin...

We say that a short end of stay clean is included but we like the chalet left tidy and the kitchen clean. And that there will be a deduction from the security deposit if an 'excess' amount of cleaning is required. We have never had to make this deduction.
