http://www.travolution.co.uk/articles/2009/02/04/2167/homeaway-increases-dominance-in-europe-with-new-purchase.html

''Online holiday rental giant HomeAway has made another major acquisition in the European market after snapping up the Homelidays brand for an undisclosed fee.

The acquisition of the Paris-based website will give HomeAway control of the number one and two holiday rental sites in the UK and France.

The Texas-headquartered business acquired Holiday-Rentals and Owners Direct in the UK in 2007. It also owns the market leaders in Germany and Italy and the number one and two brands in the US.''

Oh Blimey Sad

... not too sure I am very happy with the takeover. I am a big fan of homelidays and I hate to see the little guys being eaten up by the big boys.
They mention in the article about benefits for homeaway clients with more exposure in Europe, but I don't really see how we homelidays customers, already advertising to a European market, will benefit.
They will probably increase the prices next. Crying or Very sad
The Homelidays site is not the easiest to manage but I have grown used to its little quirks and foibles. The staff always get back to you quickly if there is a problem. They are my main provider and I hope nothing happens to interfere with that happy history.

I suspect that the (now very rich) ex-owners of Homelidays may not feel as bad as you do Wink

Aye, it is terrrible news indeed.

Since HR was snapped up by Home Away they seem to have done nothing that is in the interest of independent owners. As a result we moved over to Homelidays.

At the moment, Homelidays produce excellent results for us, especially French enquiries. We love the French and don't want to lose them. I just fear that changes brought in by the new owners will be changes for the worse and again we will be looking for a new productive place to advertise.

I am delighted to see that Homelidays is getting into corporate evasion mode (extract from today's news emailed to us by them)

Quote:
FANTASTIC NEWS :
Homelidays has signed a contract with new partner company HACHETTE.. This well-known French editing company has chosen to publish the content of its guide « Une année d'évasion » (A year's worth of evasion) on our website. As well as the 3 events that we selected with special care and attention, Internet users will be able to discover many other ideas for holidays. These events will also come with links to holiday rentals in that specific town or region.
So your advert will have even more visibility!

Bodes well for our future with them, I am sure... Rolling Eyes

Analysis of the takeover. This forum gets a mention - are we influential?

The number of sites owned by Homeaway (aka the WVR Group) continues to grow. It is clear that they are seeking to dominate the market, although I share concerns about the impact of this on owners. Here's the latest list that I have .. .please let me know if you have any updates.

Homelidays bought Holidaylets not so long ago, I am not sure if it was included in the deal with Homeaway.

Let's hope not, and we can all move back to Holidaylets then.
