You are so right, La Vache...I am now a good stone heavier and OH a stone and a half heavier having given up the weed just over a year ago.
We chewed sugar free gum for a while not sweets, so it wasn't sugar that put the weight on. We also went cold turkey - no aids at all.
We walked more - up to an hour a day now. We took up more sports. We have dieted - all to no avail which is pretty miserable but we won't start smoking again just to be thinner.
Not quite sure what else to do now. People said the added weight gain would eventually self regulate but it hasn't - short of starving myself, it is difficult to lose any of this extra weight.
We look like TWEEDLE dee and TWEEDLE DUM now and the only consolation is we can both call each other fatty. _________________ www.fincafernandez.co.uk

Aw Fincafern, I'm sure you don't look like Tweedle Dee etc!
GG - reminds me of mam's cig dropping out of the ashtray and burning a cigarette length hole in the 6 month old carpet. The insurance company tried to fob her off with a repair using a bit of carpet from behind the sofa. I wrote a letter pointing out the "new for old" and they stumped up the price of the carpet. Lily bought a rug which covered the mark and took Dave and I out for a curry with some of the proceeds.
She was quite funny when she was "secretly" smoking, it was the worst kept secret in the family! She's think of the most obscure excuses to nip off by herself. Bless! _________________ https://www.facebook.com/lilycottagebelford |

My right buttock is dee and left dum - I gave up successfully for each pregnancy but with the intention of starting again - and took on 10kg each time. Then after pneumonia gave up, for ever I think as it now repulses me, and gained the final 10. _________________ Never complain, never explain.

Not really that tough, the worst thing is it was always my opportunity to sit down and relax for 5 minutes. I miss that. I don't miss the smell or the taste, or the effort of hiding the fact I was smoking whenever a guest came within 10m of me. And a cup of tea tastes a million times better without tobacco. |

Are those fake ciggies any good? You really do need to have that time out periodically! _________________ http://www.facebook.com/Gascony.Magic?ref=ts

Sorry La Vache, I didn't realise you were only 6 weeks into stopping or I would not have mentioned the Tweedle dee and dum bits - off putting for someone trying to give up. Anyway, not everyone is affected in the same way, I'm sure.
I wish you all the best and you'll be saving money too - we treated ourselves to a cruise - saved up all the money and watched it grow weekly but we were heavy smokers, not like you.
We had enough after only 9 months - that says something doesn't it ? Plus we could sit any where we liked on the ship without feeling like pariahs - lol! _________________ www.fincafernandez.co.uk

Hats off to you and your OH Finca, and a cruise was a fantastic way to reward your success. My habit was minor in comparison. I hope I don't put on weight as I can't afford a new wardrobe and I like being a size 10.
GG, I've always used the Allen Carr method of stopping, no substitutes, patches or gum, just cold turkey. The fact I had a stinking cold helped me get started! |

I think you should install a comfy chair or even a hammock behind your woodshed with a little cubby hole in the shed to hide your favourite mag or book and treat yourself to 5 or 10 minutes eight times a day - that'll make you feel better! _________________ Family friendly gites in Brittany with covered heated pool |
