they arrived yesterday after a long drive from germany, where they run a nursery (plants) and a shop. long long working days, at the moment, but decided they needed a break.

they went to bed very early after i served coffee and 'oranjetompoezen', a local delicacy to serve on april 30th, queensday in holland, in my backyard, where they looked round (it's nothing special, i just only have 'weeds' i prefer to call 'wild plants' and they spotted two species they'd never seen...). what time would you like breakfast...? ehmmm.. so i said: i'll get up to make it, when i hear your shower run. which i did...

for today, they planned a trip to 'keukenhof', a quite impressive exhibition of spring flowers, attracting loads of tourists, not too far away from my B&B. never been there myself Embarassed

for the very first time in 3 years being 'in the hospitality business' my guests brought me flowers! tulips, of course, a bucket full of them!!!

happy guests, i LOVE them.

That's good to hear as I seem to remember you describing some not-so-great guests (or was it 'no shows'?) quite recently... hopefully restores some faith! Smile

KC the no show was a case of scamming i was totally unaware of, as the agent wasn't mine and i had no details about the booking at all -just tried to help a 'collegue' who was fully booked. lesson learned, again. details! i need details! Wink

had some 'not too appreciated guests' prior to the german guests, though it might just be possible they didn't want to disturb my privacy, as the only contact was at arrival, 'can we have a key please?' and the next contact was 2 days later, to pay... before they left. it was to say the least, a bit odd they booked a cheap B&B, as a friend who saw their car, said: honestly, with a volvo worth 68.000 euros, they could afford much more to sleep for the 3 nights they paid you for!

never a dull moment.

You've had a good week with buckets of tulips and bottles of champagne! (Mind, I'd prefer a bucket of champagne ..... Laughing )

Our latest guests, a young dutch couple with a baby, are leaving tomorrow and just popped in to thank us for the wonderful week they had. They then presented us with a large box of chocolates as a thank you. It made us feel that we are doing something right.

well deserved!!! i got a huge 'tip' this morning receiving guests who were totally drowned (cyclists) and put the kids (10 and 12) in a hot bath immediately and took care of the loads of sogging wet clothes and shoes. too tired and exhausted, not wanting to go out for a meal, i suggested to buy pizzas at the supermarket close by and switched on the oven Wink

the kids were their grandchildren who grew up in africa... in a very 'shielded' environment with 'personnel'.

nice to see that as a hostess, you can give hospitality to people and care for their needs. the 10 year old: 'we've never seen rains like that! awesome! and i LOVED to sleep on your attic as we don't have attics!' Wink

just try to imagine two elderly people walking around in my B&B in their underwear... the kids in the jacuzzi loving it... me loving every moment of it!

That sounds like a perfect resolution to their plight Lydia. Roll with the punches! It is so good to have B&B and rental owners who adapt to the conditions.
