Could be genuine. I usually reply to such enquiries - it can't do any harm. Just be cautious and don't give away too much personal information.

Sounds genuine to me - they've correctly named where you are and that's the UTMB (Ultra Trail du Mont-Blanc) week when people are desperate for accommodation... we've getting a lot of similarly worded enquiries, too.
