Squint hooks in bathroom

Squint hooks in bathroom

Post by Jemima Copping »

I bought a row of metal hooks for the bathroom, the stick- on kind. They were ever so slightly squint when I stuck them on, but not really noticeably so. That was a year ago.
OH informed me a couple of weeks ago that he'd noticed the hooks had been put on squint. I said yes I know but I couldn't take them off as they were stuck on so hard.
Last week on changeover day I noticed that they are now pointing diagonally up the wall very noticeably squint. They have moved! How did this happen and how can I get them off? Any ideas?
I thought maybe someone had tried to move them but there are no marks on the wall which I would have thought would happen if they had been wrenched off and stuck on again. :?

:) I sympathise. I'm hopeless with putting those things up. Maybe as people have been hanging things on the hook, they've moved orientation a wee bit? Depending on your wall surface, I'd try a very sharp knife/ blade, or nail varnish remover, maybe?

The most likely explanation for something that irrational is a glitch in The Matrix.

However, on a more practical level, jenboyle's suggestion of a thin blade - that won't snap  (the blades on Stanley knives snap easily, be careful; the thinnest paint scraper you can find is a good bet) - plus a solvent is the most likely to succeed. Meths or even WD40 may also work - depends on the adhesive. Is the rack stuck to tiles?

I've never heard of a glitch in the Matrix before!
It's stuck on the plasterboard, so I'm afraid of making a big hole. But will try this weekend with your suggestions, thank you both.
Luckily my present guests are very understanding and even invited me to dinner the other night as I'm on my own tnis week! :D

Once you've removed the hooks, you can use this stuff (imaginatively) called Sticky Stuff Remover, available in most hardware shops around Scotland. We used to use it in a shop for removing all sorts of sticky residue... it's great stuff and should remove the residue without removing your wall!

Don't get those Ikea sucker ones for the bathroom. They stick fine for a few weeks, then fall off during the night scaring the s**t out of you!

It's the same as skew-whiff, out of kilter, wonkee and topsy-turvy. Basically, not straight. 8)
