Hello, I have been interested with the site all afternoon. The topics even way back were fascinating. One thing that worried me was the licence topic for villas etc. I want to do things right. On our ground floor we have a two bedroom apartment nearly finished. As we live on the premises, does that make a difference ? Would it be different for normal long term rent rather than holiday ? Reading your articles of a 50,000 euro fine gave me a turn !! Several of you said licences were not possible and is of detriment to the tourist industry. There must be scores of us beavering away at accommodations, what do we do ? Risk it ?

Not scores, but closer to tens of thousands... and as far as I can tell none have licenses yet. I can't seriously advise you to ignore or risk it, but a) you are in very good company, and b) I did hear rumour that a revised and simpler version of the law was due around end of September this year. Its now October, so thats all about par for the course Crying or Very sad

Thank you so much for your kind answer Richard... Of course, I went back and read all of the topic more closely after sending my question. Typical of me--put the thing together, then read the instructions. ! ...I was new to the site and was trying to read everybodys subject since time began all at once.... You could have easily said - oh go back and read it all- but you didnt, and I really appreciate that. Lets hope the legislation is clear soon, for the good of Portugal as much as anything.
