difference between b&b and guest house

Hi folks
does anyone know the legal difference between these. We are intending to let 2 rooms as a b&b and have come up against someone saying we should be classified as a guest house, which I believe means we would have to adhere to different criteria

I don't know the answer to your question because I'm in France but... first of all, who is suggesting you should be defined as a guest house? Local tourist board? Accreditation board like the AA? Local tax office?
Are you planning to get some form of accreditation or grading (stars etc) and if so, could you request a definition of one vs the other from the relevant body?

difference between B&B and guest house

The only difference (according to UK Quality in Tourism) is the number of rooms. B&B has up to six rooms, a guest house more. Everything else is the same, I think! We are a guest house with eight rooms but generally known as and called a B&B.
If you are letting rooms as a B&B you'll obviously have to have insurance and let the local authority know that you are a business
