See dmjarvis reply Helen, he did it for me.
| Quote: | Spurred on by the original topic of this thread I tried to build a FB page using the app mentioned. I hit a few problems with it (including the ads at the foot of the page) and so looked around for an alternative.
I found this link to 10 apps that could do the job, and decided to try out #5 Static html, iframe tabs...
http://www.socialmediaexaminer.com/top-10-facebook-apps-for-building-custom-pages-tabs/
Aside from the usual iframe issues that you will get from all of these solutions I think this works ok. At least this app allows you to switch off the scrollbars. |
I'm lucky in that he takes care of my site for me and although he explained to me how to do it I was rather overwhelmed by the code, so he offered to do it for me and result!

I've always just stuck with the standard Facebook fan page ( http://www.facebook.com/kendalcottages ) and not tried to dabble with it further.
Am I missing a trick? I do OK for fans, but could I be getting more likes if I had introduced a more enticing means of getting people to like/share/etc. ? _________________ Kendal Cottages, Kendal, Cumbria - between the Lake District & the Yorkshire Dales |

Well, on my lodges facebook page I've gone from 147 to 154 fans since I posted that having had almost no new ones in months. OK I'm not breaking out the champagne yet but...
Given that you already have 2,677 people who have liked your page you may not be tooooo excited by this of course
I did the same on a facebook page for a local issue group I am involved in and we got a 50% increase in likes in 2 days. (from 36 - 60). Given that being "liked" dramatically increases the possibility of people sharing your info (which is the goal here)I think it is worth spending a short timee doing this stuff. BTW the app I used in the end - My Tab seems to be fine and also allows you to instal other tabs so I now have a nice (well I think so) html based "About our lodges" tab too

Thanks - just to be clear, I'm not suggesting there's no merit in doing this to get more likes. Just trying to ascertain whether it has a noticeable impact.
I'm sure you're probably aware that your rise could have come about from other LMHers seeing this thread and deciding to keep tabs on you...
Still, they all count! _________________ Kendal Cottages, Kendal, Cumbria - between the Lake District & the Yorkshire Dales |

LOL - I know how many of them are LMHrs whose names I recognise ..
Wouldn't explain the effect on the other page though. |

A very nice page indeed Windy.
Can you explain a couple of things to me? Is your landing page a different page to your facebook page, or are they one and the same? i.e. is this an extra page in addition to the page you originally created when you started the facebook account?
It says you have 154 likes, but when you click the "see all" it only lists about 20? What am I missing here (based on the fact that I never can find my way round facebook very well..... ) _________________ Norfolk Coastal Holidays

Nice work John - I would have written a recommendation if I'd ever stayed at your lodges or even visited the Lake District |
Thanks for this, LV. Those of us that have already liked the page weren't seeing this. I can see what's going on a bit better now.
This is the one bit of customising a FB page that I really 'get'. With the rest, I'm just inclined to use the standard FB features, otherwise doesn't your own website become a little redundant.
That said, I understand Coca Cola's FB page gets more traffic than their own website (and no doubt this is true of other companies), so perhaps this is just the way everything's heading... _________________ Kendal Cottages, Kendal, Cumbria - between the Lake District & the Yorkshire Dales |

Don't let that stop you.
Oops did I really say that - it must be my anti-tripadvisor mood kicking in again.

It's really a landing tab within the page , and it's what's called a "like gate" as it tests whether a visitor has liked the page. If not they are treated to the new tab. If you visit subsequently you see the Wall by default but if you click on the Welcome tab you see a message tailored to people who have already liked the page.
If you click on the About Our Lodges tab you see a tab that is designed using the same principles but it has the same content for both Likers and Non-Likers.
I do have a personal FB account which is NOT the same as an FB page. This blog post explains a bit about the difference (remove the gap before www)
http://www .socialreflections.com/difference-between-a-page-and-profile-on-facebook/
As regards the likes if you wait a few second a "view more" link may well appear |

I just don't get it!
What's it for?
Why do people wander round looking at their mobile phones and not looking where they are going?
Who are they talking to?
About what?
What's it for?
Why on earth would anyone want to go to a facebook landing page about my apartments?
Aimless and pointless waste of time! _________________ www.bournemouthselfcatering.com

LOL
Well I just took a £500 booking 2 hours ago from someone who found us via a tweet that originated on our Facebook page. I think he may have found me on his computer not his phone so he probably didn't actually bump into anything / anyone. |
