I'm another regular lurker of this forum....Thanks guys for all the brill advice and tips.
I'm about to make a claim through Intasure as my lovely copper gutters and downspouts from the chalet and the contents of the woodshed (brushcutter, new shiny petrol lawnmower) have disappeared overnight. The security lights were also broken too.
I'll let the forum know how the claim progresses as I know some members are insured with them or have asked for advice about whether to use them. Luckily we don't have guests for a while so plenty of time to get things fixed thank goodness.

Good luck with your claim. We are insured with them too so it will be interesting to see how well they treat the claim Wink

I hope they treat you well, I was pleased with how they responded when we claimed last year having been burgled. They put the claim in the hands of loss adjusters based in Paris who asked a lot of questions and required evidence of the stolen goods existence - all of which we could supply and they paid up a lump sum without quibbling over individual item values - although possibly I had under estimated, its very hard to know what the replacement cost of older items really are, especially when you need to claim quickly. I am still realising that I am missing pieces I did not claim for - too late now.
I can't recommend highly enough having photos of both all your contents and also your copper gutters and anything outside the house which is a potential target .
However the renewal came around recently and the premium had increased so much I have changed to an Italian insurer and had to exclude theft of contents (nothing decent left to nick anyway) to keep the premium affordable. I hope you are successful with your claim, we found them fine to deal with, just could not take a 75% increase for this year's premium.

Thanks Memes, That's reassuring, were at the stage of sending intasure photos of the damage and getting prices for renewal and digging out the receipts for the gardening stuff that was taken.
Did your policy price go up 75% as a result of your claim?. This is our first claim and we have been with Intasure 6 years so we will not be happy about paying a £250 excess and having such a hefty hike in price too...... Mad

We had a claim last year too. Although they were a little slow to pay out they didn't quibble about the amount. Our premium went up 25% from £396 to £490. Our claim was for £1600, so we actually got back all the premiums we had paid since insuring with them in 2007.

The increase in premium came from an underwriters demand of an extra £240 because of the claim, plus about an extra £15 on the contents insurance but the majority of the increase was on the buildings part and I was told this was due to the earthquake cover getting more expensive. They said that everyones excess was now going to be £250 rather than £150. They were also insisting on us installing a bell type alarm system - I had already told them about extra security measures we have put in place - cameras both inside and outside the property, chains across the entrances, big signs warning about video surveillance and savage dogs and owners but under the list of endorsements in teeny tiny writing was something about getting the alarm system serviced which was the first I knew of this new requirement. We live 500m from the nearest occupied house and I thought this was going to be useless - the cameras send a shot to our phone if they are triggered which I thought much more useful (I have a direct line to our local police who could be there in 10 mins)and we are going to install small speakers so we can shout at anyone we see. Personally I reckon me screaming at em would be rather more effective than a bell! I am sorry to part company with them as they are pleasant to deal with and when it came to the crunch they provided the cover as promised but its just too expensive for me now.
Hope they pay out for you and your renewal notice does not make you faint later in the year. I guess if enough of us say no to these massive year on year increase they may reconsider, it seems to be the underwriters who are moving the goalposts rather than Intasure being greedy, we are paying for past losses they have suffered I guess.

Just an update on our claim with Intasure..... They asked questions about whether the shed was attached to the house (it isn't) so we thought maybe the stuff taken from in there would not be covered. We were pleased when we were paid in full (less the £250 excess) for replacement of all stolen equipment without quibbling
The gutters are now in the process of being replaced and the estimates have been accepted so payment is assured for when the work is finished.
We are very pleased with the way our claim has been handled but I'm not looking forward to the increase in premiums for next year!

If you want to get a quote from Intasure please click on the ad at top right of this page to get to their site. This will not change your quote, but it will give Lay My Hat a small commission if you do buy their insurance.

... and if they don't think that being 400 ft above a lake it might flood your property you might get cover.

Tell them your name is Noah and don't expect Intasure to know much about geography would be my advice. Wink
