Well I think that being British includes not giving a stuff about the ridiculous tests dreamt up by some overpaid jobsworth because we all know they couldn't organise the proverbial piss-up.

It means giving an Adele salute to all forms of petty authority at every opportunity Cool

Mols

(by which you may gather I failed - 63%!)

Failed dismally - 29%!!!! Shocked

But surely at least one of the answers to the questions was incorrect: How many bank holidays in the UK? (answer: 4).
?????
I can count at least 5, and that's not counting Whitsun, August, etc.

Is this really the test that people have to take, or is it just one that was made up by Channel4?

8 is the correct answer:

Jan 1st, Good Friday, Easter Monday, May Day, Spring (Whit), Late Summer (August), Xmas day, Boxing Day.

So God knows who was counting that one - I wouldn't want to work for them!

38% here Shocked

Not that I have any particular attachment to being a UK citizen, but how on earth is knowing what percentage of the UK population regularly attends religious services, or what year the voting age for men and women was made equal, supposed to make me a better one?

Words fail me. No, they do, really ....

42% but my 14 year old got 54%!

There are 4 bank holidays but 8 public holidays in total. We have gradually used the term bank holidays to include public holidays as well over the years so that was a sneaky question indeed.

Cinema classification U to not include under 4's? There isn't a lower classification so I guess that means that no films are suitable for under 4's! Hmmm tell that to Disney......

Disaster - 29%! I was reduced to guessing on most of the absurd questions. A few questions about corruption in the British political class and my percentage would have improved markedly.

42%, a dismal failure.
Nemo, what is the difference between a Bank and Public Holiday? I just call them all Bank Holidays and I know there are 8 in total because in France there are 13 (unless you have an unlucky year like 2011 when 5 of them fell on the weekend).

Quote:
Bank holidays are holidays when banks and many other businesses are closed for the day. Public holidays are holidays which have been observed through custom and practice.

The original four were named in the Bank Holidays Act 1871 and were Easter Monday, Whit Monday, the first Monday in August and Boxing Day. It did not name Good Friday and Christmas Day as they were already recognised as holidays. The Banking and Financial Dealings Act 1971 moved Whit Monday to the last Monday in May and the August to the last Monday. New Years Day and the first Monday in May (Mayday) were made holidays since that act.

Clear as mud really...... Rolling Eyes

Bank and Public Holidays are not statutory holidays. An employer can insist you work those days for no extra pay or time off in lieu and they can count towards your annual holiday entitlement.......

Well there you go - I thought a Bank Holiday was Fred Goodwin chartering a luxury yacht and nipping off to the Bahamas for a few days with his mates. Duh!

I scored 38% Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed

But, my heritage is Irish, Scottish Italian and Welsh, I am dual national swiss after getting married to a swiss man and live in Devon (and we would like to be independent from the rest of GB down here west of Taunton anyway)

I can't see how some of the questions are at all relevant to "britishness". How on earth would a potential citizen know what proportion of british people own their own homes?? In some countries (my adoptive swiss nation included) less than 20% of the population own more than 80% of all property. Renting is only a stigma in the UK... Why on earth would anyone be interested in who owns property?

I could go on with the "wrongness" of probably 90% of the questions (particularly the bank holiday question - I work all bank holidays as I am a farmer!!), but Mr Annew says I am being too fussy and starting to rant and that I should shut up now....

Laughing Laughing

(mind u, he is swiss.....)
