Residents concerned about a fireworks shop due to open next to a petrol station in Alicante have been told not worry.

The proximity does 'not constitute a risk’, according to the fire prevention and extinguishing group SPEIS

I can almost, but not quite, imagine it happening here - the shop and the petrol station bit.

We had a fireworks factory up in the hills not far from here, where every year or so, there used to be a medium-sized explosion.

We used to hear the bang, and say to each other..."oh that'll be the fireworks factory again"

Shouldn't laugh, but can't help it.

When I was a teenager, we lived next to a strange little man, who didn't have a proper job, but made fireworks in his house In fact, he worked on the fireworks for Charles and Di's wedding (showing my age, now!)

He too, had explosions from time to time, we used to rush next door to see if he was ok - was a bit hair-raising
