Lay My Hat

We have a wordpress website that is our cottage's name dot wordpress dot com. We get very little interest through the site and certainly no bookings. I was wondering would we get more interest and possible bookings by not using wordpress's free site and having a web site in our own name? or is it just that our web site is not very good!
Any advice would be appreciated.

What alternatives are you thinking of using?
