Algaecide: To add or not to add?

Post by Jimbo »

Swimming pool: Whether to add regular (weekly?) doses of algaecide, grab the packet off the shelf when algae are sighted or simply rely on properly maintained levels of chlorine to keep trouble at bay? A question that I ponder but don't really have an answer. Spotless pool until yesterday but algae invasion suddenly sighted this morning along the wall junction at the deep end. Quelle horreur!

Assuming properly maintained levels of chlorine with PH balanced nicely and daily checking, what do other pool owners do with regard to algaecide? And does it obviously work - or it is simply a precaution?

I'd appreciate any advice.

I use PoolRx so never have to worry about algae or using algaecides. I haven't once had a green pool since using it :D , I just add the slow chlor tablets, do a choc treatment every few weeks and add pH+ occasionally (we have very acidic soil).
