Hi All

Been dealing with a family for a coupla weeks now.
Initial enquiry was for both houses :D so of course I gave a cheap rate[you know how things are at the mo  .]
Great!!! can you tell me Airport pickup costs etc.yep
Oh thats Great.
We think we will have only one house after all.
Thats fine as well[sigh......]

Just got an email from them
Hi, thanks a lot for all your help, but we've decided to go for a package holiday. Thanks again.
Youve gotta smile havent you :) and at least they let me know.
I think there will be a lot of this going on comparing prices etc[and who can blame them]
With Pickups it was gonna cost them about £60 per person for the week[May]

I bet that is the TV advertisement campaign by Jamesvilla ... suggesting a private rental much cheaper & better - if is a direct result of that then it proves TV advertising does work - at least they looked around!

They'll regret it being crammed into high rise with loads of other folk to save £10 each!
it's all a learning curve!

Actually Tansy i thought that :) .......[Looking on the bright side :) ]
Ive also been pleased when Ive seen those James villas adverts, I do think it makes people think[does anyone advertise with them pretty pricey i think??]
As you say maybe theyre normal packet hols people but thought they check out the alternatives...
well I couldnt/wouldnt have made it any cheaper.
You can only so what you can do......and I was really helpful as well, as is the norm  .
But maybe this means more Packagers will dip their foot in the private rental market lets hope so....... :)

See  you cant keep a good optimist down :D

this could be as well where all the ideas for pic nics etc have an effect!

I did post about James villas when I 1st saw the TV ad - a little thin thread started up - it looks like they are taking the whole peak season off you and paying you a % - not for us lot me thinks!!

All in all I do believe there are 3 holiday makers

package, fish & chip brigade
private rental
owners to their own property

When we go somewhere far flung like Caribbean I suppose we come under package with OUT the fish & chips - just the rum cocktail!

Or am I being too simplistic?
it's all a learning curve!

If you mean for 'villa holiday' the only other group I can think of is those who get a tour operator to custom make a package.

The company my daughter works for does this & they are not seeing a drop in sales of their £5,000+ a week per person holidays this year.

If you mean general holiday makers, there are many, many other types.

TTP is right there are the also wealthy travellers who use specialist travel agencies to put packages together for them, accomodation, chauffered cars, guides, excursions, the lot.

Well there we are. Maybe we should be putting together little holiday packages too!

We already do in a limited way but I think I may start trying harder with war tours, cookery courses, that sort of thing.

I know when we go long haul we usually book with a tour company and once there drop them... has worked every time in the Caribbean - I did it once to Corfu but an 18-30 group came into the accommodation 2 days after I arrived - nightmare!

 Never forget the young lads with their union jack swimming trunks with blow up willies to make them look more masculine (as if!), the owner of the taverna was mortified!

The sort of agents who organise travel for the wealthy are hand holders too, they do everything. They used to also deal with getting passports and visas for a hefty fee.

Interesting BS. I've already turned down 2 requests because they wanted to sqeeze more people in...of course they don't say it like that!

I'm wondering if that will be more common this year - instead of renting a villa for 10, rent one for 8 and cram 'em in!

When I get my Jewish film crew from New York staying every year... that has included visa's, transport, VIP's you name it...

OMG they are coming again this year - they make whirlwinds and a 2 year old's making demands look nothing!

Still, I can take the mickey and they laugh at themselves but I don't get anything extra in payment terms - a by line on whatever film they are making... if anyone goes to the American Cemetery in Normandy we're credited at the end of the film Letters in the visitor center.
