Space for spreading roots

Post by pambon »

My little 'garden' is handkerchief sized - a raised bed since it's waist high and I have planted in it five beautiful hibiscus trees (one was already well established when we bought the apartment and I planted the other four.)

I would like to plant just one more next spring, but my hubby says that the roots may 'compete' with each other and to be careful.

What suggestions do you green-fingered gardeners have please?

I have hibiscus self seeding here and they grow up very close together so I wouldn't be too worried.

That's good news Enid, thanks. Now you mention it I have seen hibiscus used as hedging planted closely together......

Self seeding? Tell me more, never heard of that and mine have never done it

It seems I may regularly chuck them out with the weeds - but not sure what a 1 or 2 inch hibiscus really looks like

Look at the leaves - they are easy to spot
