Decking? Give us a clue....or is it a touch last year?

Some good friends of ours have just blown £15k on decking around their UK home on the South Coast.

It's embarrassing to push it too far, but we can't see the point, and battling with weeds and a rat sanctuary it may be wearing a bit thin with them.

Whazza attraction?

MG, we have decking, but it didn't cost anywhere near 15000, and we've had it for some time now. Hubby put it there himself. We haven't had weed problems with it at all, just an occasional fern or two popping through, and no sign of rats.
It is far quicker to dry out than a regular patio or terrace, meaning we can often sit out there on a showery day when we would have been unable to due to puddles. It has actually saved us from a flood in a freak rain storm. Our garden does not slope away from the house, so a bit of excavation was necessary to install the deck. A paved terrace would have meant a higher water level, which stopped just below the threshboard.
It's also nice to walk on in bare feet.
