Do you ski anywhere else ?

Post by Beanie »

Just wondered if any of you snowy home-owners venture further than your own pads to ski at any time?

We keep thinking about it but then have an attack of the 'lazies' -visualising just what it would be like just to have just a hotel room to ourselves; no Brit TV; how on earth would we fit any ski gear into a 20kg luggage allowance, we'd have to lug it all home from here first then we'd probably have to ski every day to make it worthwhile (not really fit enough at the mo - but then wouldn't have any tasks or packing up to do - yey).

So clearly pros and cons.

Am keen to hear if someone get us out of the 'can't be *rsed' mode as it's a big world out there with plenty of stupendous slopes to be seen.

Well, we did come over to your neck of the woods today....magical day! And, very sensibly, you weren't taking phone calls......

I can assure you that both phones were on and we'd love to have hooked up with you guys for a 'Desperados' and a gawp at all those horribly young ski racers.

Horribly young? There were dozens of tiny tots today - how old? 3yrs if that? And occasionally came across a little one who had to be rescued, in a floods-of-tears-heap, with the SSS teacher a dot in the distance.

Mrs G's prize goes to the two guys on boads, slaloming backwards down from Bretaye on the poma lift track with the punters coming up from Lac Noir. Soooo cool she didn't shop them in.

At Col de Soud, waiting for the train, there was this amazing guy, aged 91 (he opened the first ski school in Villars) - will we be on skis at that age?

Yes, such a pity, Beanie - see you in March?

We still ski with our SnowHeads friends, late October in Les Deux-Alpes, and we had a week in Wengen last winter. If hubby is given the go-ahead, we may be in Val Thorens at the end of April, but will have to go via Serre Chevalier to collect our skis.

Definitely! If the chalet's booked, it's a good opportunity to go elsewhere...New Year was in Tahoe this year, then La Grave in February and we are planning on doing the Haute Route this easter (week-long ski tour from Chamonix to Zermatt)

On the wish list is Hokkaido in Japan - might be a while though :)

Cons - have to do a quick changeover day grab of the gear! Packing it is OK, just don't fly with a stingy airline...

Buying another pass rather than using our yearly one here is a pain too.

We bought our ski chalet in Bulgaria as an investment. We wouldn't have even considered going there to ski! We have skied there occasionally, but only if we happenned to be there on (chalet) business. We are all day, everyday skiers, so there just isn't enough skiing for us there. We've just come back from St Anton. Now that was a different kettle of fish altogether...

I went two years ago to austria - semmering and it was great, good prices and even better quality.....we rented rooms in family house, those people who lived there an old lady with husband, they made for us nice breakfast every morning and when we came back we cooked something......
And also i have been to slovakia many times, its good too - many skiing resorts there, but better to go in mid jan or february....xmass is expensive, and easter might be too
