Maybe, maybe not ?

Post by mpprh »

Hi

I've changed the name on this one posted today.

But google finds no reference to the mail address, and it could just be genuine ?

Hello Peter,

I am planning to visit Sommieres for several months
from March 2006.

Would your appartment in Sommieres be available?

Many thanks,

Sue

(this refers to an old ad 4 months ago)

Hi

What size are you looking for ? And furnished / unfurnished ?

The previous appt is now rented, but I am renovating a number of appts in the same building. I expect to have the next one ready by March 2006. It is 2nd floor, facing South, with 1 bedroom & a lounge /dining / kitchen area. There is a separate bathroom. Approx 30 m2.

A friend has a furnished studio to let, but it is in Langlade : maybe 12km closer to Nimes.

I also know of a furnished 3 bed house 3 km from Sommieres, available 3/06 for about 18 months.

There are not many furnished appts available other than holiday lets in the area.

If these don't suit, it is worth putting an ad on my forum.

Regards

Peter

Hi,

Thanks for your prompt reply.

The one bedroom appartment in Sommieres would be
great.

What would the monthly rental be from March 2006?

We are planning to stay for several months, and to use
Sommieres as our base.

Many thanks,

Sue

Hi

Rental is Euro 350 per month, either furnished or unfurnished. It
comes with a new fitted kitchen and wc/ shower room.

I've attached a photo of the views from the apt. The market is
Saturday mornings.

I've got other photos of the Sommieres area here :
http://www.the-languedoc-page.com/photo ... -index.htm

Do you know the area ?

Hi,

That sounds great Peter.

I would definately like to rent it out for March and
April, and very probably throughout the summer.

I know Sommieres well, could you tell me which street
the appartment is in?

How shall we proceed?

Shall I send you a cheque?

Sue

Hi

I'd be happier for you to see it first before making a commitment !

It is on the corner of Place du Marche ( also named Place du Dr Dax) and Rue Mazelle.

It faces the steps leading up from Place du Marche to the narrow passage by the clock tower.

There is a clickable map of the centre here :
http://reunir30.free.fr/sommieres/som_v ... site.shtml

When will you next be over ?

Hi,

Yes I take your point. It would be much better for
both parties if we could meet and I could see the
appartment.

Unfortunately I will not be over now until March 2006.

I'm just keen at the moment to have something settled.

Could I perhaps put a deposit down for the month of
March?

Let me know what you think, and how you think we
should proceed.

Many thanks,

Sue

Sounds genuine to me. I would say that she definitely does not sound Nigerian! See my posting about the jams and chutneys man ("Am I being paranoid?" in this same forum) - why don't you ask for her phone number so that you can discuss it with her? If she's genuine I'm sure she wouldn't mind.

I can't see why you'd think it is a scam.Christmas puzzle?

Peter,

I agree with Fraise, Catherine and Alexia. I don't see the scam about it at all. Originally, it could have been a time-waster but now I don't think so, unless she likes wasting her own time.

I would continue with the negotiations. They may come to nothing but I really do think it is a genuine enquiry.

At times I think that we are being a bit too suspicious about our enquiries. Spam and scam are buzz words but aren't we being a little paranoid. The rip off ones where we could lose money are easy enough to spot; at worst the rest are just a waste of our time. I play along with the very few I get until they talk about sending me £1m for a £300 booking and I'll send a cheque to someone else for the excess. Will I? Like hell I will! On the other hand, I suppose some people must have done. Otherwise, why do they bother?

I don't see anything suspicious at all in this. I didn't see anything suspicious in the jam man. Should I be more suspicious? It's kind of pleasant to assume people are for real until they show themselves to be fraudsters or Nigerian, and hasn't done me great harm so far.

Alan, you should know those of us who get 150 million clicks a day on our google ads never write cheques for less than a million pounds, even if the rent is only £300. It just takes too long. So it may not be a scam, just someone very rich.

Sorry Marcus, I had overlooked that small detail.

Hi

the title says it all.

I tend to think it is genuine.

On the other hand I wouldn't be too keen to send a cheque to someone I don't know, for a deposit on an appt that hasn't been seen (in fact doesn't yet exist).

If it had been Nigeria or hungary, I wouldn't have replied !
