Gardening costs in SW France

Post by Richard51 »

Does anyone here have any idea how much it costs per hour for basic gardening (mowing, strimming and hedge trimming). We provide all the equipment and are currently being charged €20 per hour on CESU (so with cotisations €32.60 per hour). Is this reasonable?

No. Unless sw France suddenly costs more than se France.

We live on the Côte d'Azur where gardeners are paid 8-9euros ph CESU. Our daughter pays 12€ph CESU for someone who is fantastic - he installs the plaque (hob) in the kitchen, does re-wiring, plumbing, cuts ivy from a 10m ladder, as well as all the gardening (including mowing, strimming and hedge trimming), of course. He works so well because he knows that nobody else will pay that well.

Our gardener asked for & is paid 9€ph CESU and he provides a lot of the equipment (hedge trimmer, electric saw to cut down established tree - we provide the lawn mower).

Many thanks for the reply. It did seem an awful lot per hour - it's more than we paid for any of the artisans we have had working on the house...

We pay ours €9.50 + cotisations, I thought that was steep enough!
