turning down a booking

From the moment they step through the door your bookings become guests, and their experiences determine whether they ever come back.

This is just for inquiry !

Hello !
We want to make a holiday trip next year with about
20 young people (incl. 3 kids). We are from the YMCA
of our town. The people are between 17 and 38 years
old. Now we are looking for a place were we can stay
together. Your house could be place for 8 girls of
our
group maybe. We also have sleeping place for the
other
members of the group at Pinea. But our big problem is
that we have no place where we can stay together. The
flats at Pinea are too small. And we need a place
where we maybe could eat together. Is it possible to
use the great kitchen in your house to cook and eat
together in the house ? We'll take good care of
everything of course !
And how much would it cost in
the time between 28 May 2006 and 09 June 2006 ?
Calvi is the best place for that trip...I have been
there 5 times now with my husband and my 3 kids and I
would love to show that great place to my friends !
Greetings from Ilka Mutz :-)
Cheers

" Sorry - am I missing something? Why would this be such a bad idea?" 20 of them in the kitchen? Of course once they are in the house there is no way of telling where they will go or what they might do!It certainly wouldn't be quiet!! If you have a house for 8 you wouldn't want that many people! What about crockery?Glasses? Insurance? :? Shudder.....

Hmm. Guess so. It's just that I regularly go on weekends with a group of friends that total approx 25 including children aged from 2-11. It's always difficult to find the right venue in the right part of the country - we live all over the place from Newcastle down to Penzance and places in between.

Last year we found a wonderful place in the Ledbury area that technically sleeps 15 but the owner is happy to accommodate us all (kids on blow up beds etc). We're going back there again next week.

I'm proud to say that in 12 years of similar trips, we have only broken 2 glasses...!

Then again, from the other side of the coin I know that yer average Joe Punter can't all be as marvellous as us... 8) .

In our French house (sleeps 14), we've had more trouble with damages and breakages with a party of 4 adults and two babies than we have with a houseful. Swings 'n' roundabouts.... :)

Again, forgive me for being stupid, but why would 2-4 couples be a bad booking?! :?

I'm clearly missing something here but will post more tomorrow when I'm not about 2 bottles of wine down... :D

Mrsdivine,

It spells big party to me for the weekend (New Years to boot!) and for a weekend taking thats not a risk we would take - even with a 800 Euro deposit. Happy to refer them on to others in Provence who are prepared to take the risk ....

Clexane,
I have had a lot of 'couple' groups staying in my gites for long weekends (incl. Christmas and New Year), most have been quite 'mature' and I have never had any problem with them. Even the younger 'couple' groups have always been fine. Much less mess than when there are children involved! I must stress they have always been French, not sure I would let to a similar group of Brits!

I think I would much rather have th e25 'young' Germans in my kitchen than 2-4 English couples for New Year!

I once accepted a booking for group of 'silverhairs' from a PUB group - it was the landlords making the booking.... never again!......They had a good time and didn't my house see it?!!!
it's all a learning curve!

Susan, Tansy,

It ended up being the right call not for the same reason though. We ended up getting a two week rental over the Christmas New Year Period which we would have lost for the weekend.

I agree that they might have been OK but we where just not comfortable with it. A key message and learning we have taken away from this forum is only rent to those you are comfortable with (It is very very rare we are uncomfortable with anybody). We do our very best to have the best possible Villa with quality fittings and fixtures and risking a bad situation that we are not comfortable with just didn't make sense.

It was difficult to say no but in the end it worked out for the best.

I am currently in Australia for a holiday and the beaches are glorious, temp 35C :D

Merry Christmas everybody and Happy New Year
