Assessing Traffic Rankings
Assessing Traffic Rankings
Is anyone aware of tools that you can use to assess the visitor traffic to rental web sites ? I use Alexa, although my understanding is that it is only based on sampling those web surfers who have the Alexa tool bar installed. Other suggestions ?
Thanks,
Kevin

If I understand correctly, Webalizer is primarily a tool you can use for analysing your own web site. What I'm looking for is something that I can use to get an indication of the number of visitors to rental listing sites such as VRBO, Holiday-Rentals etc.
Alexa ranks sites from 1 (highest) to n million (lowest) based upon the usage it detects among those who have the Alexa toolbar installed. I would like to be able to turn that into an estimate of the average number of visitors per day/month etc.
Anyone aware of tools I could use ?
Thanks,
Kevin

Because there are so many different ways to measure ( visitors, unique visitors, pages viewed etc) , it's hard to know how to compare any published stats such at Holiday-Rentals.
I took a snapshot, using Alexa, on Jan 9th that you can find here :
http://www.compareownerholidayrentals.c ... nkings.htm
However, it's still hard to translate this into actual visitors on a consistent, like for like basis.
Any ideas would be welcome.

Not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for:
http://www.marketleap.com/siteindex/
But it compares the number of pages search engines have in their database.
I think it will be difficult to track down actual visitor stats as most companies keep these close to their chests.
I also think people are beginning to realise the value of a focussed site, so the biggest is not always the best.
There are a load more web tools here:

All the best

A word of warning......The Alexa tool bar is useful, but it's jam packed full of spy wire. I recently stopped using it, and the amount of spam I get trying to sell me software has dropped dramatically.
Others have made the same comments to me. However, I regularly use Yahoo Anti-Spy and Spybot to "clean" out my PC, and they both give warnings against Alexa, but I've kept it installed and havn't had any issues.
