faded sun umbrella

Post by lorca »

We have a very good quality hardwood sun umbrella on one of our terraces. Although it´s still in perfectly good nick, the fabric has faded in the sun which makes it look rather sad.

I´d rather not fork out for a new one if there´s a remedy, although I can´t think what that might be  - any ideas?

- Can you take the cover off to dye it in a washing machine?
- What's the fabric? Cotton? Canvas?
- Can you use a permanent ink marker to put a design on the fabric to distract the eye from the bleaching?
- Can you use something like dilute Milton to further bleach a pattern of, say, ghostly daisies?

Thanks Normandie - v imaginative ideas which I´ll definitely consider!

It´s heavy cotton and not removable - I as wondering if I could paint dye on - but I guess it might run if it rains ....
