Compulsory Water Meters for all Holiday home supplies

Post by ceilwart26 »

Hello, I had a letter this morning from Dwr Welsh Water telling me that I had to have a water meter fitted because they do not allow holiday homes on a supply unmetered. I am a farm with 2 pre-existing holiday cottages and 4 teenages in residence, so I am not keen to volunteer for a meter!

Previously I have responded to their request for seperate pipes (about half a mile to the road, so very expensive) for each cottage, stating that the Water Act didn't allow them to force me to have seperate pipes!

I've not heard of anyone else having to do this.

Has anyone else any experience and/or suggestions?

Thanks
Jan

How do Welsh Water know that you are a 'holiday home business'?

tut tut Windy

Shall see what is in our post next week when we visit.

Dithering whether to change a 3 bedroom rental to a water meter but maybe our minds have been made up.

Presume you are on business rates for them to identify you.

Beacuse they are non-domestic rated and included on one property with my farm?
I suspect they know through the 2005 planning permission to turn them from farm buildings into holiday cottages, but I am just guessing

Our Welsh Cottages are registered for Business Rates with Gwynnedd council.
Our correspondence address for Welsh Water is our home address, but we have received nothing.
That's why I asked really :)

I was however, considering applying for a water meter as they are usually empty from November to March.
Would it work out any cheaper??? :?

I suspect not, because visitors seem to take a lot of showers!

I take it your cottages are on seperate supplies?

What council area are you? Our farm and 2 holiday cottages are £17 pcm in Gwynedd (we have a lot of rain here!)

Do you know what the approximate ratio is water to sewerage?
The reason I ask is that there are plans to take over private sewers and I'm wondering how much extra that will put on my bill

TIA
