looking for

rural but not isolated location

traditional - no need for gyms or spas

a home from home experience

nice views, gardens etc

home cooked traditional british fare evening meal service a MUST

not to big - want them to receive a personalised service

Have a look at the Drunken Duck near Outgate, or the Punchbowl at Crosthwaite.

I've stayed in both for the odd night here and there. Perhaps a bit more contemporary than traditional, but not to the point of having gyms/spas.

If anywhere else springs to mind (I'm sure there must be LOADS of places that fit the bill), I'll post again in due course.
