Pool Closing - end of season

Hi

After having a pool for 4 years and paying for opening and closing - Hubby feels that he might have enough experience of pools to try opening and closing the pool. Please can anyone provide any info. Our pool is 6x12, concrete with a lining. We also have a pool cover for the winter. We would like to know what is the process/any specific chemicals required to open/close the pool.
