Japanese Knotweed problems

Post by Maison Lahorgue »

This nasty stuff is all over the woods near to our property but some has migrated into our garden and is growing under part of the house. A bit has even got through the wall into the kitchen. The UK has specialist companies that deal with it but I can't seem to find the equivalent in France. Anyone know what I can do? Trouble is you can't just cut the stuff down or dig it up. Its stems have to be injected with powerful chemicals around four times a year for up to five years. Normal Roundup isn't strong enough and the products that are can only be bought under licence. I'm told landowners and farmers in the UK often carry chemicals to combat the weed but so far I've not been able to track any down. Help!

This doesn't directly answer your question, but here's a thread from a French forum.

I typed in Japanese Knotweed France and there seems to be a few links that may be of use. Awful stuff though and it sounds like it may be a losing battle if it's out in the woods and coming towards you.

In the past I have used Amenity Land Solutions(www.amenity.co.uk) for chemicals and they ship to Europe. They are pretty good for advice aswell.
