He says the insurance has covered 'loss of earnings' to date, but surely the buildings insurance will cover remedial works too? Even if 'subsidence' is to blame, the excess is usually only around £1,000 (unless there is prior history) so the owners will not have to find the purported one hundred grand will they?

The insurance won't cover work that is needed but not directly linked to the problem. If a wall needed replacing then that's just ongoing maintenance not an insurance issue I suspect.

Maybe they never got a structural survey done of the house when purchased. That may have thrown up any possible problems with the wall. But that is just a guess. The whole situation looks like one big mess with everyone trying to get the other to pay.

Most insurance companies will do all they can to avoid a claim.

I recently had some major structural problems, which were triggered by a burst pipe underground. The insurance would only pay for the repair of the pipe but none of the damage caused by 100m3 of water leaking away under the house.

If I had a hole like that appear in Spain, the insurance would cover nothing.

Never a truer word said. Think they only cover fire and theft.
