It's Paolo, not Paulo, not Paola, not...

Post by vrooje »

I know some may think I'm an irritable b**** for posting this...

...but as he is the site's creator and administrator, I cringe every time I see Paolo's name spelled wrong on a post.

I know nobody means to do it, and perhaps I'll think better of this post later, but at least for now -- this post is sticky so that everyone who visits the Cafe will know how to spell our host's name!

Thanks, sorry, I'll stop being annoyed now.

That's it, you've been warned, anyone who gets it wrong from now on will be banned...

I think that's a bit extreme.

Oh, I like that one! My other favorites are Vrooj and Vroje.

It's funny that I would mind Paolo's name being misspelled more than my own.

We actually have a Paolo here in my department, and we also have a Pedro. One is the other's grad student, and this causes all kinds of confusion, with newcomers mixing them up left and right. I've also heard our Paolo being called Pablo. I guess it's true what they say -- the first and last letters of a word matter more than the letters in between!

There's a great example of this on the web, but I always have trouble finding it, because all the words are misspelled, to prove the point! :)

Well, can't find the original post or link, but it was either this link or a similar one.

I once had two employees who were close friends -- always slipping off for a round of golf whenever vaguely justified  -- and they were named:

Jeff Dirks ... & ... Jim Leff

Deff? Lim? Lirks? Everyone had trouble with it.

But did she put an "eeeeeh" in front of it Enid. It is a very Geordie thing to say "eeeeh, ower Susan".

I love spoonerisms on names. A girl at work was saying she'd been out walking and instead of saying it was at Shaftoe Craggs she said.... Crafto Shags - ha ha!! More spoonerisms please! (Am I allowed to go off topic as it is in the cafe?)

Not quite a spoonerism but hubby was earnestly telling a friend how we enjoyed watching the quiz programme "Nobheads" on TV. I realized he meant Eggheads on BBC2 but naturally its always known as Nobheads now.

Not exactly a 'spoonerism' either, but this'll make ya laff!

Our youngest, Niall has a knack of saying the wrong thing and as we spent lots of time in various 'Brico' shops when doing the renovations, he inadvertently named 'Espace Emeraud'......you guessed it....'Espace Haemorhoid'!

And, he's only just 14!
