Pricing an exclusive booking

Post by stork »

We have been approached by a company specialising in arranging weddings abroad to hear if we would be interested and how much we would charge to rent the whole property for the event.

We had considered it in principle before, but did not get any further yet.

We would supply the lodging (as usual) and electricity and let them put up the stuff for the party. (We have capacity for up to 30 persons in a property of 2.5 ha).

We have two key questions we would like your opinion on:
1) How much damage are we likely to get? (we are thinking that partying people are more likely to break things
2) How do we charge for renting the whole place, compared to normal rate?

Any other thoughts?

Hi Stork,
Have you looked up "wedding villas algarve" and maybe compare no of bedrooms you have with some other venues that offer similar. We have been asked on a number of times also but I have only had one wedding at our villa & it went well and I wouldn't worry much more about breakages than normal. The big worry is the wedding itself they will want everything perfect and for nothing to go wrong so that can be a worry, but if you are dealing with a professional wedding planner that will be at your property during the day of the wedding then I think you will be okay.

We only have a 2 bed place so can't be much help for a hosting perspective! We have however booked a place for our wedding next year in Sitges near Barcelona. I suspect people going on a destination wedding are a bit older and I wouldn't suspect there would be much more damage than a usual large group stay (especially with kids!). I found it surprisingly difficult to find a large villa in the Internet, most of the listing sites only allow you to search 12+ people, so difficult to filter out those with 6 beds to thise with 15 beds for example. One site I did find helpful was one called the big domain. It may be worth enquiring into listing with them? I don't know how much it costs etc. the other problem I had was that although I found a shortlist of a few properties, most of them had decor which was a bit old fashioned, and I obviously wanted something with the wow factor! That being said I think if you do offer this then you could certainly charge a wedding supplement, I'm pretty sure every other part of the industry hikes up its prices for weddings! I would also definitely recommend linking witha local wedding planner.
The place I have booked is called casa felix near Sitges, the photos look wonderful! It seems that they do a lot of weddings so might be worth having a look at their website/Facebook page.

Just had a look at your place, it looks fabulous! Definitely the kind of place I would have considered. There are only a couple of places available for weddings in Portugal and I'm sure you could definitely tap into the market. I suppose a wedding would allow you to tap into another market and would ensure full occupancy of the villas for an entire week. I should imagine that it would be a bit more work from your perspective (demanding bridezillas!) and you should increase your price in my opinion to reflect this.
