SSL certificate

Is there any advantage in having one for my site? Does it improve SEO?

Google do give a "small" ranking boost to SSL sites. Once again Google call the shots and demand everyone to fall inline.

Most sites have little or no use of SSL. It should be used to protect client details for payment pages etc and could even be used for contact form pages if you wanted to be extra safe. I personally don't see what the advantage of having SSL site wide is. Perhaps someone could enlighten me.

SSL is not that cheap for a whole site so the big question is whether the expense is worth the small ranking gain. I've chosen to think not but luckily my host company has a shared SLL server for when I need it for a specific page.

Ive been getting a lot more website enquiries this year and would like to boost this even further, my provider are offering ssl for £70 a year so it may be worth trying.

I have all mine SSL as it's free on One.com. However, I find most users don't bother with the "s" on http anyway.
Wufoo forms & FreeToBook payment pages are all SSL so that is a bonus anyway.
Other than for private forms and payments I can't see the point in paying for it.

It's very rare for anyone to type either http or https these days so it's up to you to ensure the correct landing address. Your site defaults to non SSL, which is fine if it's free I guess.

I get a warning from my browser using your https address saying the site does not supply any identity information.

Yes I've left it as non-SSL purely because I noticed some of the third-party widgets don't appear on the SSL version. I can't be 4r$ed to figure it why.
