Guests leaving a 'messy' wc advice please

Post by Naj »

Not a nice subject, I know. But lately we've had some nasty experiences of you-know-what inside, around, and even outside the pan left by elderly guests. I have cleaned up in the past and on occasions left cleaning materials by the loo as a hint. Yesterday was too much so I left a note, gloves and wipes. It wasn't cleaned. We are a 4 star gold B&B and some of our guests are of a certain age and obviously don't realise the mess they leave. I'm thinking in future of placing a notice bh the loo along the lines of 'please check the pan and use the toilet brush if necessary', but think this may offend guests who would do this anyway. What do people think? Help with wording would be appreciated.

It's a sensitive subject to raise with guests, especially those whom we know well. I've spoken to a few neighbouring B&Bs about this but they said they'd never had this problem? Is it just us?

No it's not just you. I've had it on the seat twice recently. Not nice at all and it always amazes me that people can wave a cheery goodbye knowing what horror you are about to discover. I just grit my teeth and get on with it. Thankfully it doesn't happen too often. I really don't think it is something you can put a notice up about, no matter how you word it. I think you just have to accept it as part of the job I'm afraid.

4 star? The guest think someone else will clean the poo up for them as part of the service.

Lol - I've had a few toilets that have baffled me.

If that's where it is on the toilet etc...

One of the bum jobs we have to do!

No matter what the star rating, no one should expect someone else to clean their mess. The anti bacterial wipes and gloves were used (hurrah!) so fingers crossed it doesn't happen again.

no one should expect someone else to clean their mess.
But that is not life. Sorry.

But it is manners, decency and having respect for the person cleaning

Reminds me of a friend who used to have a sign hanging in her downstairs toilet:
Gentlemen, please stand closer - it's shorter than you think.
Ladies, please remain seated for the entire performance.
