I cannot get with waffle towels at all Martha - they always shrink and become distorted for me :? I also invested recently in several sets of these tea towels from IKEA, but the two different fabric halves washed differently and now the tea towels are a peculiar shape because one half has shrunk more than the other half: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/00307613/

Funnily enough I have just popped on here for bedding advice however tea towels..... I usually snap them up in the sainsburys sale as they seem to wash well, the waffle ones shrink and all seem to be a magnet for tea stain or bleach within a short time.
I have 2 red and cream checked laura ashley ones that seem invincible and have been around (and remain quality) for a number of years.

I've been using black tea towels for years now Mouse, the only way to go for a rental. Found some at Asda of all places that work really well, 5 for £5!

Sorry, no help from me re the commercial tea towels but when Dave's mam moved into residential care I inherited her (unused) collection of about 30 souvenir tea towels, I have tourist spots from all over the country her friends would bring her and the prize of the collection - the Charles and Diana royal wedding one! I still buy them as i think they're really kitschy.

I have given up on fabric oven gloves and now buy the heat proof silicone ones. The work well and are easily washed.

There's still time......

I just tried to order the black ASDA tea towels which are unfortunately out of stock. I have plenty of IKEA ones but though cheap enough are a little thin for my liking.

At the cottage, I'm working my way through a pile of checkered tea towels - I consider them to be a disposable item and a ready source of cleaning cloths

Greenbarn, I'm doing my best to ignore the thread creep to oven gloves. Perhaps we should start an oven glove thread????? :D
