BEDS AND BEDDING

From the moment they step through the door your bookings become guests, and their experiences determine whether they ever come back.

BEDS AND BEDDING

Post by Lindacamp »

A good bed is essential. It is really misguided to put in secondhand, lumpy things. People notice and resent it.

Also, bedding is critical. We have pristine white bedlinen and fluffy white towels which we take great care in laundering.

Zip and link beds are particularly useful, especially in cottages with sprial staircases. You have versatility then which will increase the appeal to guests.

I have spent a long time searching for good products and now have sourced trade suppliers for bedlinen, towels and beds. If anyone is interested, please e-mail me for details of prices etc.

Excuse my ignorance please but what are these zip and link beds I keep reading about? Are they better than normal beds? I put together two single beds when a double is needed which works OK.

No, two single beds put together aren't OK at all! There is a definite line down the middle, which can be felt, particularly during those moments of closeness (if you get my drift!) that seem to occur more often on holiday.
If we book a double room, then we expect a double bed. There is something about the design of zip and link bed which means that you don't get the unpleasant lump in the middle, so they are an acceptable alternative.

All our beds were newly bought in Ikea when we started in July 2003. They are generous singles. When we put them together as doubles we cable tie the legs together (unseen) and put an Ikea mattress pad on top. You really can't tell that they are two singles.

One lot of guests found the beds so comfortable that they wanted to know where to buy them :o :)

Towels and sheets are all John Lewis - very nice quality that wash brilliantly.

Teehee, Paolo, that was funny :)

What about a place like Conforama? Although that is a bit like Ikea.

Nope ...not there nor Auchon, LeClerc all the other usual Hypermarkets or Eurodif in Cherbourg...which incidentally is superb for materials if anyone is looking in La Manch area...superb selection and VERY good prices.

Maybe Habitat in Paris? At least I could go by train!

I'm sure you've tried this, but what about a specialist bed-shop? I get the impression that in 10 years the whole world will be furnished by Ikea, and it will be falling apart.

Well I have to confess I have never been in an IKEA and never want to go in one...queue to collect! All I've ever seen is folk coming back stressed and tired from their forage!

Last resorts I'll use a girlfriends postal address in UK and it's an excuse to catch up with the girls I suppose...but as usual it's time!...so if anyone can help where to find in France I would appreciate it.

BEDS

Post by villa sibillini »

Hi all, new to the forum and run a country house in Marche, Italy.

We have solved a problem of linking singles with cable ties - they work really well. When we need them back as singles, we just cut the ties.

Try www.matelsom.com. I've used them for furnishing a clients house and they raved about them. :)
