manager/keyholder problem

I make a contract, all is well and prepared, I leave for holiday and my "manager" is to take care of "everything (as if were there) and is experienced and recommended but not licenced.
I come back to damages and letting agent having hold client back due to negative reports, including from my own manager!!!

Important loss.
Where to find reliable manager and how to secure adequate work and reduce my risk?
