Puppy predicament
Some people are just like that - they just think "well, I'll ask, they can always say no" without considering that this puts you in an awkward position.
Personally I am MUCH more likely to give a positive answer to someone who makes a very polite request and is clear that they understand if you refuse. I have allowed quite a few parties to bend the rules over the years, because they addressed pretty much all my concerns in their message, so I judged that they were thoughtful people, sometimes took an extra deposit and said OK.
But a puppy would be really different. There are few more unpredictable forces to unleash in someone else's home!
But I agree, I'd read this as the daughter asking, it may be the the renter wasn't too thrilled either. I'm glad it's all OK. Plenty of options, getting a friend or the breeder to look after it would be the best.
