Where to stay on the coast

Post by Badger »

We are looking to stay in southern Spain for a month next April and would appreciate advice on which area to stay in. We want somewhere on the coast, not too far from an airport and in an area where there is a train route so we can use this to travel to other areas.
Anywhere around Costa del Sol area considered as a base, but other suggestions welcomed.
Also if anyone knows of a nice 1 or 2 bed apartment to rent, with wifi & British tv, within this area we would appreciate details.

Would you consider slightly inland? I only ask because coastal Costa del Sol with all your requirements can be a bit grim. I say this as someone with no agenda as I have nothing to rent, but if you are prepared to look a little back from front line but still easy to access a rail station you may find more options. From Málaga for example you could look at Alhaurín, Coín or Mijas pueblo. Beyond that Monda, Ojén, Guaro - these are slightly inland with great views but really good airport access and a short-ish drive to a rail station.

Hi there our apartment is available for April at the moment and fits your criteria perfectly. Two minutes' walk from the train station in Torremolinos which is about 10 minutes by train from malaga airport.
it has Wifi, Air-conditioning and heating, British TV and lovely seaviews.

I'm not really sure why you find it grim? The coast is not for everyone, but it is what Badger is after. I suggest around the Torremolinos/Carihuela/Benalmadena borders. Plenty of life and on a good route for buses and trains. Also near enough to Malaga airport and train station to get to many other parts of southern Spain.

Posting with no property in the area and only for your advice.
Can you confirm you only want to use trains?
What "areas" do you wish to visit?
In the mean time. Fly to Málaga or maybe to Madrid and AVE (train) to the south.

One other thing Seman Santa is from 8th April until the 16th. Expect accommodation and public transport spaces to be at a premium during that time.

Thank you everyone for your replies - since posting originally we realise that the month of October next year is going to be more suitable for us than April, although that doesnt really alter any of our plans in any other way.
We want a month every year in Spain, dont want to hire a car so are thinking of using trains and all local transport to explore the whole region. We opted for Costa del Sol because we will fly on to Tenerife from there and there are only flights (direct ones at least) to Tenerife South from Malaga or Barcelona.
Thinking the weather would be better, we chose Malaga rather than Barcelona, but perhaps there isnt that much of a difference in climate along the costas anyway in Oct? If that is the case we can certainly consider all coastal areas reachable from Barcelona also.
Because we wont be having a car, inland isnt really feasible for us. We really appreciate all the advice and suggestions you are giving us. In the past we have only visited Torremolinos, Benalmadena and Barcelona so if there are other resorts that you can suggest in both thes areas suitable as a base that would be good.

I think you really know that weather is unpredictable, so questions on that subject are unanswerable. Even weather predictions of the coming week can be wrong.
I feel you are going to miss out on some of the best culture that Andalusia has to offer if you do not head inland. (Malaga is the only exception)
Good luck with your search.
