Ebay chat

Post by Sam V »

Just need to share this somewhere, anyone else 'do' Ebay?

My buyer wants to collect items in person from me but does not know/can't go through checkout without paying postage. I don't know how to do this either

Hi Sam.
06:49:53 UTC Fe Veronica
Good morning.
06:50:13 UTC grace1402
Hi, I got an email I'm trying to sell outside eBay, I'm not
06:51:10 UTC Fe Veronica
I understand the situation that you have right now and allow me to explain the situation further.
06:52:34 UTC Fe Veronica
We know it wasn't your intention to bypass the policy and we'd like to thank you for all your efforts to maintain a good track record on eBay.
06:54:20 UTC Fe Veronica
I haven't received a response for a while. If you're in the middle of typing a reply, could you please send it on?
06:54:50 UTC grace1402
Yes
06:55:32 UTC Fe Veronica
Did you received the message I send above?
06:55:51 UTC grace1402
Yes
06:56:57 UTC Fe Veronica
Also, rest assured that no action has been taken against your account; your selling and buying privileges remain the same because you’re receiving this notice now for educational purposes.
06:57:10 UTC grace1402
So what do I do?
06:57:48 UTC grace1402
My buyer can't checkout without paying postage
06:58:06 UTC grace1402
The item has collect in person as an option
06:58:43 UTC Fe Veronica
If they are your winning buyer, you can send them your phone number and address.
06:59:25 UTC grace1402
Yes, but how does he check out without paying postage?
07:00:55 UTC Fe Veronica
If they are your winning buyer, you are allowed to give them your phone number.
07:03:00 UTC grace1402
Then what? You're not answering my question
07:04:05 UTC Fe Veronica
Then that is the time they can pay for the postage.
07:05:31 UTC grace1402
He doesn't want to pay postage, that's the problem, he can't purchase the item without paying postage
07:05:52 UTC grace1402
He wants to collect in person
07:06:25 UTC Fe Veronica
Is this the item "192190150707"?
07:07:10 UTC grace1402
Yes!
07:07:56 UTC Fe Veronica
The member need to click the buy it now option.
07:09:04 UTC grace1402
Yes, then he has to pay postage, he doesn't know how to not pay postage to collect in person.
07:10:05 UTC Fe Veronica
I am afraid, you need to ask your buyer to go to your listing not paying you in person.
07:10:15 UTC Fe Veronica
Since you listed this item as buy it now.
07:11:05 UTC grace1402
Yes, with the option of postage or collection in person, he can't complete checkout with out paying postage
07:12:35 UTC Fe Veronica
But did you educate them of the buy it now option?
07:13:49 UTC grace1402
I'm not a teacher! He can see it's buy it now, he can't complete checkout without paying postage!!
07:14:54 UTC Fe Veronica
But before I connect you to my colleague that can help you on how your buyer can do the checkout for this item, was I able to explain to you the email you received?
07:15:38 UTC grace1402
Jeeze, I give up. I have to get me DD to school
07:18:09 UTC Fe Veronica
This will take a few minutes.
07:18:15 UTC Fe Veronica
Please stay connected, thanks.

You really have my sympathies. I had a similar chat with Vodafone mobile a few years ago when I couldn't get a phone signal. Thank god I wasn't talking on a phone as I ended up crying with frustration.

They can click buy it now can't they and then not do anything further within ebay itself? That will record the sale, or rather it used to! Then they could pay cash, collect in person, ebay get their sale fees and you record the payment manually against the item?

Alternatively why don't you simply remove the postage option for them or make it free, then he presses buy it now and it's at the right price. You're not obliged to use Paypal as a method of payment even though ebay would have us believe we must pay that way!

Thread creep - sorry.

I had my ebay listing removed, broke their rules but never was sure which one. I want to try again but if I do a But It Now, what happens if the guests aren't suitable - too many people, too many dogs, stag/hen, on other words a booking you would not have accepted if it had come through the traditional routes. Is it acceptable to not put dates but ask that they contact you for details?

No you have to put a date kyreniagirl, or they'll pull it. Just put in bold, on your advert, that the guest must contact you before pressing buy it now, to discuss whether the property is suitable for their needs, or that they must complete a booking form first.
