leaking skimmers (new content added)

Post by leon »

Our cleaner vigorously cleaned the cement in-ground pool when it was empty and removed the seals around the skimmers. The pool has been leaking for 2 years now (into the cement pool house) - is this a simple job to fix or do I really need a company?
And is this very bad for the cement wall it is leaking into? The pool internal walls are painted with "chaux" (lime?) but the wall in the pool house is untreated cement.

I dread being fleeced again.

Any advice gratefully received and probably followed.

Thank you Ian and Irene, Teapot.
The pool is cement(?) blocks filled with cement poured on metal rods. It was done to an engineer's specifications and has been trouble free for 20 years.
The pool is leaking inside the pool house, from the skimmers and also leaking out of the wall (into the pool house). Part of the exposed cement wall has turned white (limestone? it is smooth and shiny, like a stalactite).

For personal reasons I really couldn't do anything much before - it started leaking in summer 2015 - I have drained the pool now to
below the skimmer level to see if there is any penetration below the skimmers.
I did pay a company earlier this year but they did nothing of any use and charged me several hundreds of euros : I dread doing it again but I'll have to bite the bullet, I know.

There isn't much to photograph that I haven't described: wet walls with limestone down low - all this inside the pool house which is also made of cement blocks. Nothing visible within the pool itself.

Very grateful for any information - understanding it is already a big step forward.

Yes I understand as I have seen many "repairs" around Tours and Poitiers and Calais costing large amounts for doing very little. The picture was just to see who's skimmer it was (manufacturer) and how it is fitted.

The white dusty compound is hygroscopic salts, normal where the water evaporates from the surface.

Thank you, Teapot, but it isn't dusty -it's as hard and shiny as marble! Catastrophe looming?

No, don't panic, hard or soft it doesn't diminish the concrete. We had lots of cracks in a car ceiling and stalactites growing. Specialist structural engineers were called and stated in lots of long reports that it wasn't a problem.

Obviously you want it stopped though.
