Internet Explorer 7 question

The place to discuss anything to do with computers, software, hardware, no matter how basic or technical. We all use this stuff, but we don't always understand it!

Thanks! Nice to have that back, but glad to get rid of IE7. I uninstalled within about 3 hours because it didn't work at all with the one site I need, which is a pretty complex database that is not very user friendly at the best of times. IE7 didn't work at all because the site was interpreting tabbed windows as multiple users logging in simultaneously, which is not permitted and probably why it can't be run using FF. So I found I couldn't multi-task at all and kept getting locked out. The workaround for me is to have two browsers running at the same time, IE 6 specifically for the one site that needs it + FF for everything else.

Although a totally non-techie, I think imho that IE7 is ahead of it's time. I downloaded it and initially liked it, until I then discovered I couldn't manage my website on it. Unfortunately my site wouldn't respond in Firefox either, so I had to do a system restore to get rid of IE7 and keep IE6 as well as Firefox. (just to clarify, you can see and browse my site in FF, but not get in to manage it as the host only uses IE5.5 or 6).

It does look good, but I think a few other things need to catch up before it is a real asset.

Pauline,

I’m not sure I understand what you mean when you say “I couldn't manage my website on it.

I thought you would manage your website through FTP not through a browser.

I thought the whole idea of having a website was to enable the outside world to view it. Your website works fine for me when viewed with IE7 or Firefox or Netscape.

Alan,
I think what Pauline is saying is that she's using a web interface at the host, not FTP and that the web interface can't handle the IE7. If so, that's exactly the same problem I had, except the webinterface that I need is not related to updating any websites, but is critical.

Yes, I knew I'd cause confusion. What I mean, is that, when I was just setting it up I was using a template provided by the people I purchased the domain name from. This is what didn't work in IE7 or FF. The completed article works fine in everything except Yahoo, where one of the photo links seems to be broken.

In fact in the end we used a different template as the one provided didn't suit my needs so it wouldn't have mattered.

Is that clear now? Sorry, it's my choice of words that confuses because I'm not sufficiently sure of the terminology to be precise. I should probably just shut up and stop trying to play with the big boys!!!!

Joanna & Pauline,

Now I understand the problems but I still prefer mince pies.
