Following the PM's 'stay at home' instruction, details now published by HMG confirming all accommodation providers are classed as non-essential and ordered to close:

Doesn't appear to mention self-catering cottages? Not that it will make any difference whether it does or not as guests won't be coming. Just wondering what difference it might make to refunds etc.

I'd subsequently realised that - but as holiday travel had already been officially classed as non-essential (as per my post of Monday morning), no-one should be making journeys to holiday lets either.

What is significant is that the wording in the 'exceptions' specifically only allows people already staying somewhere to remain "if their primary residence is unavailable" - meaning that unless their own home is physically uninhabitable, anyone in a hotel, B&B, campsite etc., is required to leave and return to their own home.

No idea how the OTAs are going to handle refunds in those situations - eg., someone who arrived at the weekend intending to stay for a week and now has to pack and leave...

Hotels, B&Bs etc are all places where social distancing is a problem. This applies less to a self-catering cottage.

That's what I would think, but it's not made clear.

Starting to receive enquiries from static owners as sites close and now from family who need to split due to difficulties living together 24/7!!!
It is better to remain quiet and have one think you are stupid, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt....

The biggest mistake we make in life is thinking we have time.

News reports from around Cornwall about caravans and motorhomes turfed out of closed sites and now parked up in car parks, lay-bys and residential streets...
....meanwhile D&C Police have posted reports about how they are actively stopping caravans seen moving on the roads...

They aren’t all closing though.

Despite an email from Independent Cottages last night, asking everyone to close off availability on their advert and site until June a neighbour of mine has not done so and is encouraging bookings for spring in their advert.

(They aren’t staying open for vulnerable or special persons either!)

They are directing people to their own website rather than apply for a stay through IC site!
