ok ... ideas please.

Tansy is working on a 'logo' that will run through the rental business, everything from stationery to towels.

Here it is in it's 'concept' stage ....

I've played around with it and incorporated a version of it into the page header, but i'm not too happy with it and Tansy took an instant dislike to it ....... so anyone any ideas?

Take a look here http://www.normandybeachrental.com then select 'style2' from the text links at the bottom of the page.

Thanks in advance Smile

Love style 3 - what is the photo on the right, looks a bit sinister....

How's the house sale going?

Tony,

Here's what that shell looks like in Firefox/Linux:

Obviously strangely cut off...

Anyway it is not the shell I dislike; it's that the header now blends in with the background too much for my taste. With the other header, the contrast was high enough to set it apart from the background, but it was also unobtrusive.

My first thought at creating a logo would be to center the logo around that image of the horse pulling the cart on the beach. If that is a somewhat regular occurrence on the beach, it would be a unique logo for Tansy's location and clients who visit would understand where the logo came from, without being too standard (as a shell to symbolize the beach might be).

I like the watercolor, though! Smile

The 'dash' border is 'broke' but i'll leave that till we get something close to what Tansy wants Smile

............

Hi Pam .... going slowly as always, was looking forward to a completion late feb, but was told yesterday they want early April! .... hopefully compromise on mid march Sad

we quite like the road sign idea.

The logo...shell - we have 2 beach houses so the shell was in our mind covering both aspects - no trotters on the other beach!

It doesn't work the wrong way up..the shading does need to be at teh bottom and I think it would be better as perhaps a paragraph breaker or an icon to click on?

I'm looking to have www.normandybeachrental.com in flowing writing round the bottom of the shell...adopt this and embroider it on the towels etc.

But now my husband has seen the road sign idea - he's gone all male and is designing T shrts & sweatshirts!! So I think Tony the road sign is getting our thumbs up!

Ah-hah, now I can see the whole shell and entire top banner. My issue with it being too diminutive is completely gone!

I actually like it flipped upside-down, but I also think it could look nice with the shading sort of bleeding into the page content. In strictly feng shui terms, having the lines of the shell "open" onto the page (rather than into the corner as they do now) would be very nice for a sense of flow.

Though, I guess all this is moot if you've decided to go with the road signs! Smile

I 'quite' like the seashell, but it will look better on stationery and towels I think. It's a bit wishy-washy as the first element of communication on the homepage. And you don't have to carry over the branding from webpage to inside the house. You're not going to have the sort of relationship with clients where brand consistency is important.

The roadsign (click on Style 3 at the bottom of http://www.normandybeachrental.com) is much stronger. I'm not sure it's entirely right for a rental house though. It looks to me like it is saying 'this beach is for rent'. Perhaps that's a good thing - 'rent the house, get the beach thrown in as well'?

Wow, I'm impressed, and ever so slightly in awe! It looks clean and very professional.

I think I prefer style 2, without the road sign - it seems to suggest holidays, relaxing etc, whereas the roadsign makes me think of traffic jams! (Too many years spent sitting on UK motorways!). That said they both look good.

I notice at the moment you are carrying the 'Normandy Beach Rental' name through. Will you use a house name as well (to give that homely feel), or do you think this will confuse?

Tony - what software have you used to design this, and could a non-techie learn to use it too?

Awkward one really ... i think it all depends on the header image used. I believe it's important to have the name of the site in the header somewhere, but seeing as though the favourite seems to be the 'roadsign', this does mean that there's is no harm in changing the accompanying text. To help with the Search Engines though, i'd keep 'Normandy Beach Rental' on the home page.

The software is Dreamweaver, much talked about around the forum.

http://www.laymyhat.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=399

It probably isn't the easiest (if you can call any software easy!) but it'll help you develop your skills quite quickly.

Remember too ..... we were all 'non-techies' once Wink

I think we quite like the road sign because all the road signs for us at Utah Beach for where the house is are all hand made and we are slightly in the wilds!

The name of our "road" is Angelos T Chatas ....after the first man to land on a Normandy Beach on June 5th 1944 to reccie where the Germans were...we have a picture of him - frogman with a walkie talkie.

We have a "stele" in our road to the US Navy....it is a very unique place to have a house

We don't have a bunker in the garden...which is a disappointment - a few houses do and are now either glorified chicken bunkers or they make brilliant wine caves... I do find on a regular basis what I call the war on the beach...bits washed up after 60 years in the sea.

It is very difficult describing this place - we have the tranquility of the park and bird sancuary on one side - oyster & mussel beds, the trotters being trained then Utah Beach Memorial and museum....in many respects I do think the name Utah Beach possibly says it all...I'll pop down and take an actual picture tomorrow of the Utah Beach sign beside the museum to show a different idea - weather permitting - we still have snow!
