I think this is a good time to decide on the pages for Tansy's site - how many, and what will go on each.

A typical configuration would be:

    Homepage

    Inside the house

    Outside the house

    Nearby attractions

    Contact

    Rates and availability

How to get there (can be incorporated in another page)

Then we can think about how to break up the copy and distribute the pictures, as well as which specific additional picture are needed.

What are your views on the best page structure?

Let's make a decision on the structure of Tansy's site, then we can press on with the copy.

We know there are now two houses to describe, in roughly the same area, but across the bay from each other.

Tony, have you got a plan in your head for how the pages will fall? Anyone else have any ideas - please post them here.

Well, if the two houses are close enough together that the "nearby attractions" page doesn't have to be broken up into two, I would probably change the two Inside/Outside house links into just House 1 and House 2 links...

Same as Brooke really .......

Main Menu
1 - Home
2 - House One .... with links to floorplans / local area / rentals.org availability.
3 - House Two .... with links to floorplans / local area / rentals.org availability.
4 - Local Area
5 - Visitors Book
6 - Email Link

Footer Links
1 - site map
2 - house one
3 - house two
4 - local area
5 - visitors book
6 - links page

Site Map will have links to all pages including floorplan page.

Some places of local interest are probably deserving of their own pages though (plus it'll help with SEO), these could be linked to from 'keywords in the 'house pages', main 'local area' page and also the 'site map'.

All depends on how far Tansy wants to take it ....... no problem with adding pages Smile

That looks good...I better do a floor plan then!

Also more on local things....do you want addresses for different sites that folk could link to? i.e. invasion beaches & the various museums, Bayeux tapestry etc.?

Well, it's better if you keep the content on your own pages, as far as the Search Engines are concerned. So it could be worth you writing a 'review' of each of the places Smile

You could then have a "To visit the site .. click here" link on each page.

Yes, we're still here in good 'ol blighty Sad

The people buying our house, have had to apply for 'retrospective planning permission' for some changes they have made to their property.

Still ......... at least it's getting your website done Wink

p.s. ..... can't wait till i've got a queue of cement trucks outside, lol

What about the homepage, there are a few ways of presenting the two houses:

1. Include them both in a conventional homepage design, with one pic of each and one of the location.

2. Have an explanatory heading and intro at the top, then split the page vertically in half, with one house on the left and one on the right - if you don't mind going 'below the fold' (i.e. you have to scroll down to see the whole page) this allows you to use several pics for each property to give a fuller flavour of each one.

3. Like number 2, but the page is split into 3 columns, with pics on the left and right, and descriptive text down the middle. In 2 and 3 you make the left and right columns fully clickable to get to the inside pages.

And I'm sure there are other ways too...any preferences?

Hi Tansy,

I could copy edit what you write, and insert some keywords too, but I won't write original copy because I don't know the area.

#2 is a very interesting idea... I'd like to see that in action. I think it could work very nicely.

At 800x600 resolution, 3 columns is 266 pixels each -- is that enough to do 3 columns?

Seeing as though the layout is a fixed width design, my instinct says go with the 3 row approach on the home page (intro text, property one intro, property two intro). To split it into 3 columns would mean having pretty small 'thumbnails', which is ok on a 'gallery page', but i think it may lack impact on the home page.

You could then have 'jumplinks' to the description of each property (still on the homepage) for people 'in a hurry', and have links from each property 'intro' to the corresponding 'full property page'.

incidentally, once we've got a bit of content, i'll change the Style Sheets to display the page with a couple of layout options.

It'll then be easy to compare.
