Tracing enquirer if email isn't working

Post by Mountain Goat »

We've had a short notice booking for a couple of out-of-season weeks, which we're keen to accept.

However, punter is not receiving our emails to their Yahoo address, and has sent another firm(ish) booking enquiry.

Tracing IP address gives US city and state - is that simply where their Internet provider is located, or, in the US, is that likely to be a clue?

Using Yahoo People Search gives 3 addresses and phone numbers for their name, one of which is in same state/next-door-town as IP address.

Is this the way to do it? There are plenty of other online databases at $10-$20 a shot but not sure that's going to produce anything else.

Besides insisting on double entry for email address and phone number on our contact form in future, can't see how to avoid this.

Any ideas?

Was this enquiry through a listing site MG? I thought I saw reference somewhere to seeing if they were able to help - don't ask me how!

Couldn't find much on this but might have done with more time. The first link might be useful though...

Happy ending. The Yahoo account worked fine, and we're in contact with punter.

I was really surprised that tracing the IP address and then using Yahoo's People Search worked so well. It helps with a slightly unusual name, of course, but quite eye-opening to think that this open access public database could supply full mailing address and phone number. Or is that what is known as freedom of information?

Pay another 10 bucks and you get their unlisted and cell phone numbers. This isn't some hick outfit - this is Yahoo.
