With Wordpress [if you host ityourself, rather than the free one] you can actually download a plugin, which gives you the option of having a 'sticky post' which always remains at the top of the page.

I'll try and find it if anyone needs it.

http://wp-plugins.net/plugin/StickyPost/ is useful, and stickpost has this plugin.

Big Sis, tut tut, just think of all them holidaymakers you could be missing Very Happy

It's worth pointing out that whilst a blog [or webblog] is a free way to promote your holiday home, you do have to put some work into promoting the blog.

Write unique content about your home, location, attractions, and people will find it in the search engines. People will also link to it if they think it's going to be helpful to their own readers.

OK, I'm stepping up a gear, I now have a proper one, not a free one, and will sort it out forthwith, having imported my free word press blog to my 1and1 blog, which turns out to be wordpress.org anyway. Now where's that goat when you need him? Rolling Eyes

If you need any help just let me know, I've set up a free wordpress blog.

Helen,

Yes, hosting your own Wordpress blog is much better, you have more control and flexibility, but for people who aren't technically minded it's an easier option.

Helen, hi

I'm sort of around, but only able to help up to a basic level with WP as still learning myself. Not sure about the comment about your 1and1 blog though. Anyway, what's the prob?

As an example :

I have a few blogs for anglophones in France listed here :
http://www.the-languedoc-page.com/articles/languedoc-articles01d.htm

They are very well visited. However, they need discipline. If a blog is not kept up to date, interest quickly dies. And they must be interesting !

These are by people with holiday accommodation :

http://chateaulasserre.blogspot.com
http://www.foreignperspectives.com
http://alex-in-languedoc.blogspot.com/
http://journals.aol.co.uk/arthurjcook/DomainedePalejay
http://radio.weblogs.com/0136203/

The space devoted to "advertising" varies.

A blog needs discipline. I don't have it, so no blog !

Peter

It's a wordpress blog, but only a few themes on there, so I guess I'll have to upload some, or design one. I don't have the css editor on there either. I assume I will be able to upload some plug-ins for it though. I just don't know how. I have got wordpress downloaded though and unzipped ready to get going.

I had started a blog about 2 months ago from scratch. New domain everything, i just checked and it's already a PR 4. Just goes to show the power of a blog format. Thing is I dont really promote the Villa, well I do, and I dont. Its a blog my mum and I run about the Edinburgh area and we do link to the Villa for links sake.. but its not a blog I would want my renters to actually find, lol. With a PR 4 I may treat the blog with a little more respect now Shocked

With wordpress now, you can pick one page to always stay in front so you don't have to do that.

That's pretty impressive, I'd like to know how you got to a pr4 in 2 months without promotion.

i really love blogs, they are so easy to use & update content. The great thing about them is as soon as you post a new story, they ping a ton of search engines and the search engines crawl the new page almost immediately.
