Import between EU countries is very much simplified. So if you are in Greek Cyprus (and therefore EU) it should be easy. If you are in the North you will have to enquire locally.

I imported a car from Spain to France last year, and needed :

*A tax and customs certificate - confirming all taxes were paid in the country of export

*A certificate of conformity issued by the local importer (this may not be needed if the car is very new and the VIN No is registered by the country of import as conforming)

*Original registration documents

*Certificate of sale / invoice

*Application form

*Equivalent of MoT if appropriate

Once I got to the front of the queue at the local county hall with the completed form, the new French carte grise was issued very quickly.

Things can get difficult if the car needs to be individually certified. This may be caused by :

*the vehicle is old (before common EU certificates of conformity)

*the vehicle has been modified (different engine, fuel, etc)

*the vehicle is a camper van or caravan

*that specific make/model/variant was not sold in the country of import

*the vehicle is being imported from outside EU

This was my experience. It may be slightly different in Cyprus, but the rules are intended to be common across EU.

We have imported a car to Cyprus, and it is by no means a straightforward process. Although both Cyprus and the UK are in the EU, Cyprus (illegally under EU rules) charge a duty dependent on several factors - the main ones being engine capacity and type of vehicle. You will need to go onto the Cyprus Government website to see rates charged for different categories of vehicle and engine capacities. Along with registration document (which it is beneficial to have in your name) and several other documents, you then have to struggle with bureaucracy that is hard to believe. Most people pay a fee to agents who specialise in the importation of vehicles, as it is a long-winded and complicated process which took us two visits to Cyprus to complete. Good luck!
