Hello

This is driving me mad ....

I have read all the instructions, done everything as far as I can see:

downloaded XAMPPLITE and Wordpress latest version, configured the wp-confing-sample.php and saved it as wp-config.php in the c:\xampplite\htdocs folder

I have created a wordpress database, I can see it in PHPMyAdmin.

Yet when I type "http://localhost/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php" in FF, I get a blank screen with "terminé"

I have deleted the original wp-confir-sample.php (not sure if I should have done)

is it a language problem : I have the wordpress database in English and my brower is in French ?

This is the first time I have attempted anything like this but there are very clear instructions on the Internet, and I have printed and followed them.

Has anybody else come across this problem ?

thank you so much in advance for any help. Although I have a 19 year-old son, he has no "geek" friends, so I have nobody to ask for help.

Dominique

Me again

After having had a look on the Internet, I downloaded and re-installed a fresh version of WP

I now get an error 404 when I enter http://localhost/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php in FF.

I have checked that the wp-config file is in C:\xampplite/htdocs.

can't think what's wrong

I've had a look but it's no good as it deals with uploading onto an outside server, whereas I want to put WP on my own computer hard disk (i.e. locally) so I can start learning how to use it

Thanks anyway

Dominique

I did find this tutorial which I'd bookmarked , but haven't found the time to play around yet.

Thanks but that's the tutorial I used and as far as I can see, I did everything it said to do, and I put all the files into the correct folders, etc.

I am hoping somebody will see my post, and will have a "eureka" moment !
