What dates for Christmas / New Year weeks, France?

Post by Chambo »

I've been getting quite a few enquiries for the Christmas / New Year period. We always get countless enquiries for these periods, which is why we are pretty certain we can always sell them as 2 separate weeks, high season rates.

This year, the dates are a bit confusing.. The schools break up from Saturday the 18th December and go back on Monday the 3rd. So, I'm a bit confused as to what dates to offer.. If I did it for 2 7-night periods, the Christmas guests would have to leave on Boxing day, which is never going to happen. It's looking like I'm going to have to turn the second 'Reveillon' 'week' into a 5-night break, so that people can get back to school / work in time for the 3rd January.

Confused?! Me too.

Has anyone else worked this out better than me?

Depends on the nationality of your guests - Boxing Day is just a normal working day for the French, so I can't see they would be that worried about leaving/arriving on the 26th. (We had no problems with this last year.) We've just made our changeover day Sunday rather than the normal Saturday, so they will be leaving/arriving on the 19th and 26th December, and 2nd January. And as you said school starts on Monday 3rd January so people will need to be back in time for that anyway.

Christmas/New Year is very high season here, and I only take week bookings, no short-breaks.

I have always had Sunday changeover, so have left it the same. My first request was for two weeks and they booked. It will be the first time we won't be there ourselves.

Thank you Helen and Fifi, that's really interesting. We only ever get French enquiries and like you, it's our high season too. I just assumed that people wouldn't want to leave on the boxing day, but I guess you're right, it isn't as big a deal to the French. And at least they get the full week before.

Brilliant, that's really helpful, thank you!

I did all my changeoevers on the 26th Dec last year, all French guests and that is what they wanted. I think I'll do Sunday - Sunday this year.
