How much time does it take to rent all the time in the year?

I think this thread about 'how long to book all year' might be drifting slightly...
Amusingly, PHP originally stood for Personal Home Page, since it was invented by one Rasmus Lerdorf for his own use. The nexer title came later with wider use.
Paul you probably don't need PHP. I use it for three reasons:
1) Includes. That is, I can set up a file called, for example, menu.html and then use PHP to include that file in all pages of the site - so if I change the menu I need only change it in one place and all pages will be updated. This follows the CSS principle of keeping everything as simple and easy to follow and update as possible.
2) Forms. It is very good for dealing with forms on websites
3) Because I didn't know what it was and I wanted to know.
In reality PHP is mainly used for integrating with MySQL databases so if you don't use databases you probably don't need it - the things above can all be handled in alternative ways.
It is very useful, though, and very neat, and the more I learn about it the more I use it and the more I like it - I think I've only just started scratching the surface so far (at the bottom of this page you will see the forum is handled by PHP BB - forums are another common use for PHP).
Cheers
