Website review please........

Post by KathyG »

Haven't put this up for review for a few years now but have finally squared up all the pages, I think, and made them all match. Is there anything else I should put on there? Is it ok in all browsers? The Gallery is the next thing I need to sort out, it's a mess! :oops:

I had a quick look too. Yes the gallery needs to be changed. I accidentally clicked on the photo and was left with no navigation buttons only a photo.

You should have seen this, nav buttons at the top. Not that it's that important really as I need to change those pages to match the others and add loads more photos too.

Might get on with that today........... :wink:

I did see that. But then I hit the photo on that display. Most albums have a close or next photo script associated with the photo displayed. That is when I saw the photo only
Like on ours.

PS I am going to change our album someday, in fact I am doing the whole website. I like the simpleviewer, but is has some limitations.

Ah yes I see, I'd forgotten you could click on them to enlarge :roll: , not that they're enlarged anyway! Did all that so long ago in Dreamweaver but will try doing it in Aperture next I think.

Looks good - I wish I had my calendar as full!!
The Holiday rentals calendar plug-in doesn't work for me in Chrome - I suspect that's Chrome's problem rather than yours.
I'd add an h1 header on each page. On the home page, 'Large holiday house sleeping 12...' would be a good candidate. You might want to include a description tag - if it's there google will probably use it in search results.

I see you have a Christmas offer in the page title for availability, I'm still on Easter offers alas!

Kathy, its a really great improvement on what I remember from a short while ago.... looking good.

On the subject of the embedded HR calendar, if you would like to make it work a bit better, here's a couple of hints (provided you are comfortable editing the HTML and ignoring the HR protestations about not changing anything):

Currently you have this one line:
<iframe id="holiday-rentals-availability" height="620" width="970" src="http://www.holiday-rentals.co.uk/index. ... "></iframe>
To avoid having those annoying internal scroll bars, you can change this:
<iframe id="holiday-rentals-availability" height="2600" width="970" src="http://www.holiday-rentals.co.uk/index. ... "></iframe>
I've guessed at the new number. You may have to iterate a bit up or down.

Didn't realise I could change that Richard, however I still can't seem to get rid of them. I've extended it and extended it even up to 3000 high but I just end up with lots of dead space at the bottom. Or not so high then I get just a small window still with scroll bars. It's almost like it needs to be 'within' my page rather than underneath it, tried putting it just under the <table>, not sure what I'm doing here as you can see! That gave me the HR stuff at the top then my rates below that. :?

Caroig - Not good that you can't see that in Chrome, surely that's HR's code that's at fault, bad though!

Should I know what an h1 header is? :oops: Will go and investigate.......

Have I? :oops: Errr that'll be from last year then..... :roll:

You can try adding this:
<iframe id="holiday-rentals-availability" height="2600" width="970" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" src="http://www.holiday-rentals.co.uk/index. ... "></iframe>
But a small word of warning. If your height is not big enough, it is then impossible to scroll down, so ensure your height is the biggest that may be needed.

and if you want to be really clever and make it centered for those who have wide screens, then add these as well
<div align="center">
<iframe id="holiday-rentals-availability" height="2600" width="970" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" src="http://www.holiday-rentals.co.uk/index. ... "></iframe>
</div>

Oh you proper little webmaster you! :D That's done it for the scrolling but I don't think it's centred it though has it?

Have you put it on your live website ?

I still see scroll bars, so assume you have a test page somewhere

This is going to be a slight thread creep, sorry webmistress katiegirl.
Richard are iframes and frames not good for SEO? Maybe it will not hurt just for an availability calender.

Oh webmistress as compensation for the highjack ..more on H1 ect tags here.
